Who is bidding

Visible to you alone. The room shows the current bid and the asking price — no names, no paddles, no bidder locations.

Autopilot

The sale runs itself on these four timers. The asking price falls one increment at a time until somebody takes it, and never below the opening bid — Icons lots carry no reserve.

No bid for this long and the asking price steps down one increment.
Every new bid resets this clock.
Then it sells, or passes if nothing was bid.

What the room shows

Each of these changes the live page for everyone watching.

Start price

The opening bid, shown under the asking price.

Bid increment ranges and values

The full schedule, expandable beside the feed.

Winning bids

Hammer prices on lots that have closed this session.

Buyer's premium shown separately

Hammer and 28% premium as two figures, never added together.

Winning bids to signed-in bidders only

Anyone not registered sees the lots, not the prices.

Off-increment maximums

A bidder can leave any figure — it does not have to land on an increment.

Paddle numbers

Off. The room shows the current bid and the asking price only — no paddles, no names, no sources. You still see every bidder above.

Estimates

Off. Icons publishes a starting minimum bid instead.

Sale order number

Off. Lot numbers do the job.

Bidder location

Off. Nothing about who is bidding is public.

Under-reserve indicator

Off, and it stays off — there are no reserves to be under.

Watchers who are not registered

Off. The room is for approved bidders.

Announce to the room

Everyone watching reads this. Nobody can reply to it in public.

Announced · 19:04:12Good evening and welcome to Auction 75. Every lot tonight sells with no reserve. Buyer’s premium is 28%.

The public page takes a serial, photographs and a note, and says we will reply within two business days. It never confirms or denies anything on its own.

Staff & access Website permissions — inventory permissions are set in the inventory app

Adding somebody takes two steps, in this order

This changed when the database was locked down for the public website. An account that can sign in is no longer automatically an employee — that is the whole point, because customers sign in too. Do these the wrong way round and the person gets a customer's account with no access to anything.

  1. Create the employee record here first. Name, work email, role. This is the row that says “this email belongs to staff”.
  2. Then create their login in Supabase using exactly the same email address. Authentication → Users → Add user. The two are matched on the email, so a typo in either one leaves them locked out.
  3. They sign in and land in the admin area. If they see the customer site instead, the emails do not match — fix the spelling and they will not need a new account.
Never delete an employee record to remove access. Switch them to Inactive instead. Deleting the row orphans everything they ever did in the audit log, and the log is the thing that protects you if a sale is ever questioned.

Who works here

Inactive staff keep their history and lose their access the moment you switch them.

What each role can do

On the website side. Permissions are checked in the database itself, not just hidden in this screen — a link somebody is not supposed to have still refuses them.

What customers can never reach

Worth knowing, because it is enforced by the database rather than by this interface. A signed-in customer hitting an admin address gets nothing back — not an empty page, no rows at all.

  • What a lot cost us, and anything about the consignor.
  • Other people's bids, invoices and addresses.
  • Internal notes on an item, and the audit log.
  • The certificate register, which is why verification is a request and not a search.
  • The staff list itself — including the fact that it exists.

Taking payment outside the platform

Checks, money orders and wires do not appear here on their own — somebody has to mark them received once the funds clear. Nothing ships before that.

Every entry here is written to the audit log with your name against it. A payment marked received by hand is the one thing on this screen nobody else can verify, so it is worth being careful.

Difference on this sale

This is the number that justifies the platform. It should be checked after every sale — if a sale on our own system nets less than it would have on an auctioneer's, that is worth knowing immediately rather than at the end of the year.

Figures are illustrative. The real version reads hammer totals from closed lots, Stripe fees from the payment records, and compares against a commission rate you set per platform.
This log cannot be edited or deleted — not by an administrator, not by a bug. Corrections are made by adding a new entry, never by changing an old one. It is the same log your inventory system already writes to.
